【jr eroticism】Learning from a Koto Legend at Nishi Center in Little Tokyo

A group of youngsters were introduced to the traditional Japanese koto, during a recent workshop conducted by June Kuramoto (at left), a NEA Heritage Fellowship awardee and co-founder of the pioneering jazz fusion group Hiroshima.
During the event at the Nishi Child Development Center at L.A. Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, the children were treated to a short performance by Kuramoto, followed by a wonderful hands-on experience with the koto, assisted by Debbie Sako (above) and Cindy Oda.
Nishi Center, located in Little Tokyo, is currently accepting new students from ages 2-1/2. Preschool, transitional kindergarten and kindergarten programs including day care are offered with Japanese dancing, art, music, and gymnastics programs.
